Take action on climate change

It’s inescapable, the important day-to-day activities undertaken by our organizations generate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. But we owe it to our members and our communities to actively try to lessen the environmental impact of our work.

As well, tackling our environmental impact often leads to organizational efficiencies that ultimately create cost savings and improve stakeholder engagement.

How?

1) Measure

The first step is to calculate your organization’s current GHG emissions. This creates a baseline GHG inventory, commonly referred to as a “carbon footprint.” This is key for identifying opportunities to reduce GHG emissions and to set measurable reduction targets, and is a requirement for any organization heading down the path to carbon neutrality.

2) Reduce

When possible and where feasible, the best course of action is to undertake operational efficiencies to reduce your “carbon footprint.” In fact, simply reducing carbon emissions often realizes cost savings, not to mention creates stakeholder benefit from acting as a good environmental citizen! Cool Works will show your organization the business case for reducing emissions.

3) Offset

The remaining greenhouse gas emissions can be accounted for using carbon offsets. See our Offsets section for more information.
